Devergy is an energy services company with offices in Amsterdam and The Netherlands and headquarters in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. Devergy designs, installs, and operates solar micro-grids and retails the electricity starting at $0.20 per day. They provide low income, off-grid communities with modern access to electricity using their smart meter technology which allows for remote monitoring and control of each connection and microgrid, and enables the use of cashless mobile money transactions. Devergy’s unique business model uses pay-as-you-go (PAYG) mobile recharge to purchase bundles of energy suitable for each individual customer’s needs. In addition, they make modern and aspirational appliances such as TV’s, stereos, refrigerators, power tools and much more accessible to households and microenterprises through lease-to-own arrangements. 78 percent of Devergy’s customers are made up of households earning less than $2.50 per day.
